Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina filed paperwork Friday to run for president in 2024, formally throwing his hat right into a rising Republican major area that former President Donald Trump has up to now led.

Scott is predicted to announce his presidential marketing campaign on Monday morning in North Charleston. He made it official Friday morning when he filed a press release of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission designating a principal marketing campaign committee for a presidential bid.

The 57-year-old lawmaker, who’s the Senate’s sole Black Republican, arrives as an underdog within the major. He has polled within the low single digits in surveys of the potential subject even after launching an exploratory committee final month.

Scott’s marketing campaign didn’t instantly reply to CNBC’s request for touch upon the submitting.
