Tesla is recalling 26,681 automobiles over faulty windshield defroster software which will cut back visibility, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday.

The recall applies to some 2021-22 Model 3, Model S, Model X and 2020-22 Model Y automobiles. A software error could cause “a valve within the warmth pump to open unintentionally and lure the refrigerant contained in the evaporator,” inflicting decreased visibility and decreased defroster efficiency.

The situation may improve the danger of crash and fails to adjust to federal necessities, the NHTSA stated.

Tesla is providing house owners free over-the-air software updates in response to the recall. Notification letters shall be despatched to house owners on April 1.

The firm final week recalled over 800,000 vehicles for a seat belt chime situation. In December, it recalled 475,000 cars to deal with rearview digicam and trunk points.
