GOP House Speaker McCarthy endorses Biden impeachment inquiry

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday backed an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

“Today I’m directing our House committee to open a proper impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. This logical subsequent step will give our committees the total energy to assemble all of the info and solutions for the American public,” McCarthy mentioned at a press convention.

The House speaker claimed Tuesday that Biden had lied to the American individuals about his data of his household’s overseas enterprise dealings.

The impeachment inquiry shall be led by GOP Rep. James Comer, Ky., who chairs the House Oversight Committee, in coordination with Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan of Ohio and Rep. Jason Smith, Mo., who chairs the Ways and Means Committee.

Senate Republicans are skeptical that the House has sufficient proof to justify an impeachment inquiry.

The Republican-led House Oversight committee launched an investigation in January into allegations that Biden profited from his son Hunter’s enterprise dealings whereas he was vice chairman. 

Rep. Jamie Raskin, the rating Democrat on the oversight committee, known as the GOP investigation “a complete and total bust” in a press release Monday.

“The voluminous proof they’ve gathered, together with 1000’s of pages of financial institution information and suspicious exercise studies and hours of testimony from witnesses, overwhelmingly demonstrates no wrongdoing by President Biden and additional debunks Republicans’ conspiracy theories,” Raskin mentioned.
