WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden plans to speak by cellphone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday amid an alarming Russian military buildup on its shared border with Ukraine.
The name, the second recognized dialogue between the 2 leaders this month, comes as Washington and European allies warn Moscow that invading its ex-Soviet neighbor will set off financial and political countermeasures.
“The Biden Administration continues to have interaction in intensive diplomacy with our European Allies and companions, consulting and coordinating on a standard strategy in response to Russia’s military build-up on the border with Ukraine,” nationwide safety council spokeswoman Emily Horne wrote in a press release Wednesday.
For months, Ukraine has warned Washington and European allies that hundreds of Russian troops had been massing alongside its jap border, a improvement that mimics Moscow’s 2014 invasion of Crimea.
