AMC CEO Adam Aron confirmed Thursday he was the victim of a blackmail attempt by a New York girl last year.
The case had been previously publicized, figuring out the victim in authorized paperwork solely as a CEO of a publicly traded firm. News outlet Semafor reported Thursday that Aron was the unnamed CEO, which he later confirmed in a post on X, previously identified as Twitter.
“Unfortunately, last year I grew to become the victim of an elaborate prison extortion by a 3rd celebration who was unknown to me associated to false allegations about my private life,” Aron stated.
“Rather than give in to blackmail, I personally engaged counsel and different skilled advisors and reported the matter to legislation enforcement,” he stated. “I did so understanding I risked private embarrassment. But with my entry to assets, if I didn’t arise towards blackmail, who may?”
The New York girl behind the blackmail attempt, Sakoya Blackwood, pretended to be a former romantic companion of Aron utilizing an nameless online account starting in March 2022. She then tried to extort Aron of $300,000, threatening to show Aron’s online habits to the AMC board.
Blackwood was charged in a Manhattan federal courtroom for her extortion makes an attempt and was sentenced in July to time already served in jail.
Aron stated Thursday he was requested by legislation enforcement to maintain the matter confidential in the course of the investigation and authorized proceedings, and that he knowledgeable AMC’s board after Blackwood’s sentencing.
