Adobe CEO defends Figma acquisition: 'We think it's an adjacency'

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen advised CNBC’s Jim Cramer on Wednesday that his firm’s proposed acquisition of design software program agency Figma would profit clients, at the same time as regulators are scrutinizing the deal on concern that it might damage competitors.

“We need to take the power for what Figma has achieved with respect to artistic collaborative software program on the internet, mix that with what Adobe has achieved in our artistic, and make it much more accessible for others,” Narayen stated. “We think it is an adjacency, we actually consider in our deserves of the case, however the regulatory setting is difficult.”

Founded in 2012, Figma permits customers to collaborate on app and web site design. Adobe first announced its plans to amass the corporate in September of 2022 in a deal value about $20 billion.

In late November, U.Ok. regulators said the acquisition might hurt the nation’s digital design sector. The U.S. Justice Department can also be engaged on a case to cease the deal, CNBC reported.

Adobe launched quarterly earnings on Wednesday and beat Wall Street’s expectations. But the corporate issued a weaker-than-expected forecast for 2024, sending the inventory down virtually 5% in after-hours buying and selling.

“We take our steering very severely,” Narayen stated. “We have super momentum within the enterprise because it pertains to digital media ARR, we’re guiding to the best quantity we’ve ever guided firstly of the yr.” ARR stands for annual recurring income.
